Our M109 Self Propelled Howitzer arrived on Tuesday 10/22 and was offloaded and put in place on Wednesday! Three cheers and a beer for Dave McCuskey for making this a reality at last after a 5 year wait!

Concrete was poured on 8/7 for the Care & Share unloading pad and the sidewalk in front of the M109!
Comrades Dave McCuskey, Richard Buehrer, Zeke Raby, Larry Schultz, Don Kelshaw, Doug Stowe, and Bob De Groff helped with the manual labor. Then everybody went home for a nap.

The 2015 Dove Creek National Rat Rod Show, Aug 15
The VFW District 12 Meeting was held in Dove Creek on February 14th
Guest Speaker, Dolores County Sheriff Jerry Martin, gave a presentation on firearms safety and the responsibilities of concealed carry under Colorado Statutes.
The meeting was attended by members of the District 12 posts and Auxilliary. Department of Colorado Surgeon David Stone was also there to pass on info from State HQ.
NATIONAL POLICE WEEK/ARMED FORCES DAY CHILI PICNIC MAY 21, 2016
The post hosted a free chili picnic on Saturday in celebration of Armed Frces Day and national Police Week. Our local law enforcement officers were presented with certificates of appreciation for their work protecting and serving Dolores County and Sheriff Martin was given a plaque to display in the office as a token of our gratitude for their dedication to the community. Spencer Gatlin, the winner of the VFW College Scholarship was also recognized for his accomplishent.

Rico Cemetery Cleanup June 4, 2016
The post undertook a community service project to clean up the poorly maintained cemetery in Rico. The cemetery contains the graves of numerous veterans fron the civil war to present day and was seriously overgrown, Members of the post, family, and volunteers spent Saturday removing undergrowth, mowing grass, trimming trees and making the place look more like it should as the final resting ground for American Veterans and citizens. A big thank you to all who participated. Good hearts and sore muscles.
The 3rd Annual Dove Creek Rat Rod Nationals 8/20/16
After the annual memorial ceremony at the cemetery, we moved to our Veteran's Park next to the post and unveiled the stone designating the park as the David K. Allen Veteran's Park. David and his family were there for the ceremony. Afterword, everyone moved inside for a special cake and coffee. The post also presented Sonny Frazier with a plaque in appreciation for his years of support for the VFW.
